LA MESA is a collective of Latinx creatives across a variety of disciplines in film and television. We are writers, directors, actors, comedians, executives (and a whole host of others) who have banded together under two guiding principles: we are here to move the needle for all Latinx professionals in film and TV and we are inclusive. We celebrate our differences while accentuating our commonalities. We believe there’s a seat at the table... for all of us.
COMING SOON: Join us for the LA MESA Live Read! Our inaugural event will bring together four Latinx TV writers, paired with four seasoned Latinx TV directors, and an ensemble of Latinx actors to perform a live read of the first 10 pages of four unproduced pilot scripts. Watch this space for announcements.
JORGE RIVERA is a former true-crime TV producer who now writes fictionalized murders instead of producing stories about real ones. After years of traveling all over the U. S. interviewing cops, criminals, and killers, he naively decided that navigating Hollywood as a TV writer would be a far less dangerous career choice. Jorge was a fellow of the National Hispanic Media Coalition’s Writers Program and the Fox Writers Intensive. He’s written on the Fox Television series A.P.B., and prior to joining the Writers Guild of America, produced a string of true-crime hits for the Investigation Discovery Network, including Twisted Sisters, the network’s highest-rated true-crime series premiere. He currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Latinx Writers Committee at the WGA.
PETER MURRIETA is two-time Emmy Award winning producer, writer and showrunner with a career mission - to expand and further legitimize the entertainment value of telling stories about diverse cultures that are about more than their trauma. His credits include Wizards of Waverly Place, Superior Donuts, One Day at a Time, Greetings from Tucson, which he created, Mr. Iglesias on Netflix, and is working with Mike Schur and Shea Serrano on Primo. In addition to his entertainment career, Peter has been a fellow of screenwriting at AFI and is currently a Professor of Practice in the New American Film School at Arizona State University.
ERIK RIVERA is a veteran stand up comedian, whose latest HBO Half Hour Special, Super White is currently streaming on HBOMAX. He's a staple in the stand up comedy scene with appearances on The Tonight Show, NBC's Last Comic Standing and Oxygen's Living With Funny. Erik is super busy on the development front - he's teamed up with Eva Longoria and Unbelievable Productions with hopes of bringing his brand of comedy to the screen.
